Onward to Canterbury!
Clip-clop, clip-clop goes the Nobleman’s party
Clip-thud, clip-thud walks the Miller’s donkey
“Hail Mary, hail Mary!” goes the nun with her rosary
“Amen, dear sister, amen!” joins the Parson with his hands held high
“Good morrow, dear sirs, tell me where do you fly?”
“To Canterbury, good man, we go till light leaves the sky!”
“Well, good sir, pray, might I join your band?”
“I say yea can; just tell us a tale, and I shall be glad.”
“Good sir, I shall! I’ll tell one to your merry band!”
“Onwards to Canterbury, onwards I say,
Lest we tarry here and prolong our delay!
The sun is moving and so shall we, I pray.
Onwards to Canterbury, no time to waste!”
