open your eyes

They say that every crime can be forgiven That every wrong can be made right That love concurs all They are wrong Wars are fought every day Lovers lay dead A pool of their life surrounding them The cries of the innocent can be heard around the world But we are deaf to their cries We turned a blind eye All of us We do not wish to see the suffering We do not look at the broken child lying in the streets The starving man begging so he can live another day The prostitute selling herself so she can feed her own We stay in our own world We ignore them Can that wrong be made right? That crime forgiven? How? We don’t even see that we are doing it. We believe we are helping We are lying to ourselves We are betraying our own when we look away Refusing to see, refusing to believe We pray for forgiveness for crimes that mean nothing We never pray to be forgiven for crimes we don’t believe we have committed We fear the monsters The devil When we are just as bad as them Look at the world Look at yourself We are the monsters We rape and murder We killed innocence Look at yourself truly And tell me What do you see?
