Origin

(Dedicated to my step father who passed from cancer) Origin A calling intercepted, And at a time of struggle and misconceptions. A burden you willingly endorsed yourself in. Understanding in nature, With a simple gesture that assured nothing would harm. A protector you are even in times of turmoil within. You were there yet again, Understanding to my youth. Troubled as I was, You held your post. Not shoved, Nor ignorant to rummage situations, You kept a keen distance in my upbringing. Foreshadowing any issues in the midst of my thoughts. But the feeling of self, in control. You catered to me better than my own blood. Lessons taught without books, Without bruises, Lessons taught with a blurry conviction. As if I learned it myself. You've always been there for me. During laughs of random jests, And the most serious frolics of competition .. And during times of thoughts and ignorance flying off my tongue. You assured me so, And lectured new ways. Unique and useful were now traits of mine. Unfortunate now that I should bare witness to this illness striking you.. I've just grown to know you. The type of man you are.. And how the story unfolded before my eyes these past years.. And how I've grown up in my ideals because of you. As a boy I was but no longer a child. But I don't want you to leave.. Not now at least.. There's so much left to do, Things to witness.. A smile on your face to be seen at some future alter. But I will assist with this hazardous journey of yours. You are not alone. And see it out where ever it may take you. And faith that you'll be guided by our makers hand to the unknown. Even in a non-believer like myself. Though our origins differ, And I am not of your kin, You treated me as so. And for that a love that is boldest and unselfish is embedded into the connection. Where I am eternally grateful. In having the privilege to call you a sire.
