Origin of Man

The universe began when you entered my life

Hearts began to beat and blood began to course through our veins

There was nothing before this moment

The second your eyes fell to mine the oceans began to wave

The wind roared for the first time across the undisturbed ground

The first steps of man were taken when you greeted me

The circle of life was set in motion by your hello

The core of the Earth began to warm

The sun’s rays finally reached the distant mountain tops

The planets settled into orbit and outer space grew to infinity

The first stars began to shine and were reflected in your eyes

It was all I could do to stand there and watch as life began for the very first time

But where there is life, there is tragedy

The instant you began to walk away, magma jumped up from the Earth

The ground opened up and captured the delicate wildflowers

The clouds turned dark and lightning struck as your eyes left mine

The seas revolted and claimed the land for themselves

The creatures of the Earth began to still as their hearts turned to stone

The moment you turned, a hurricane rattled the world and left it broken and torn

The planets diverted from their course and collided in chaos

The stars shined too brightly in your eyes and slowly burnt out

It was all I could do to stand there and watch as life stopped for the very last time

There is nothing after this moment

The universe perished when you departed my life
