Other Self
Today is the day,
The day you show your courage.
You're going to talk to her,
You’re going to tell her how you feel.
You’ve been friends with for years,
But now you want to be more than friends.
Now’s your chance,
Tell her how you feel.
You think of the perfect thing to say,
There is nothing that will ruin this moment.
You open your mouth to speak,
But it all goes wrong.
She looks angry and scared,
As if you said something evil,
Something diabolical,
Something that can never be taken back.
You wonder why she looks that way.
Then it hits you,
What you said was not what you thought.
But you don’t even know what you said,
Your mind went blank as you were talking.
You know you were talking,
But you don’t know what you said.
Now she’s crying.
You reach out to comfort her,
But she runs.
She runs as if she were being chased,
Chased by an evil creature.
You can do nothing except plead to her.
“Wait….Stop,
Please don’t go,
It wasn’t me,
I would never say that!
Come back!
It wasn’t me.”
But it had to of been,
Who else could it have been.
You were the one who opened your mouth.
It was your voice that said those words.
You look for someone to blame,
But you can’t blame anyone.
You can only blame yourself.
Not your actual self though,
Your other self.
Who is this other self,
It is a creature that lives in you,
Lives in your mind.
It talks to you,
And you can hear it.
You can clearly hear every word it says.
Almost as if it is a real person,
Whispering right in your ear.
It whispers evil things to.
Things that would creep people out.
When you least expect it,
It will whisper,
“I die, when you die.”
You remember now,
That is what you said to that girl.
Except it wasn’t the real you,
It was the other you.
Somehow its voice came out,
When yours was suppose to.
Knowing this frustrates you,
Devastates you,
Destroys you.
Your emotions run wild,
Your mind spirals out of control.
You can’t think,
You can’t speak,
You can’t comprehend what is happening.
You can only let what is happening happen.
Wait,
Where are you going?
Why are going to your closet?
What are going to do with that belt?
What are going to do with that chair?
Wait a minute,
You’re not doing what I think you're doing.
No,
You can’t!
Get that belt off neck,
Get off that chair.
This isn’t the real you.
This is your other you.
The real you would never do go through with this.
“I die, when you die.”
Don’t listen to it!
Fight it.
“You can end it all,
Just kick that chair,
And it will all be over.”
Don’t do it.
“Do it.”
No.
“Yes.”
No.
“Yes.”
No!
“Yes!”
No!
Suddenly,
All is silent.
You hear nothing,
See nothing,
Feel nothing.
You did it,
You actually did it.
You silenced your other self,
But at what cost?
At what cost?
Your other self tricked you.
And now,
It’s all over.
But wait,
Are you seeing what I’m seeing.
I see a light,
I bright light.
Down a long tunnel.
The light gets bigger,
As the tunnel gets smaller.
Almost there.
Just a few more feet.
I hear a voice.
But its not that evil voice.
Its calming.
Almost angelic.
Is this,
The good place.
It must be.
I see angels.
With their gowns,
And halos,
And stethoscopes?
Wait,
This isn’t the good place,
This is a hospital.
They must have revived you.
This perfect.
You can live again.
And without your other self.
But something doesn’t seem right.
Why are you crying?
Where did your teeth go?
How did you get so small?
The doctor must be strong be strong,
If he can hold you in his hands.
He’s saying something.
“Congratulations, it’s a boy.”
Of course he’s a boy.
He’s been a boy for many years.
He’s walking you to your hospital bed.
Good,
You should rest and figure out what’s happening.
Wait,
There’s a woman in your bed.
Who is that woman.
The doctor is handing you to her.
Let go of him,
You're not his mother!
Stop saying that you are!
“Say hello to your new son honey.”
That’s not your dad.
They are not your parents.
Why are they calling you Timothy?
Your name isn’t Timothy.
What is going on here?
Oh no,
You were born as a different child.
Maybe this is a good thing.
You can live a new life.
A life where where you are not tormented by your other self.
You can finally be happy.
“Don’t be so sure about that.”
