The Other Side of Life

Another rope hung from the ceiling fan

They told him it was wrong to love another man

The bones snapped quick as he fell

All they said, "He is going to Hell."

Another teenage mom died giving birth today

They told her she wouldn't have been good anyway

Her uncle raped her late one night

All they said, "It serves her right."

Another story is written down on skin

They told her she was too ugly, too dumb to fit in

The pain ebbed away slowly, just like her life

All they said, "It was a coward's way to die."

Another time, another place

They speak foul words, they judge with haste

A little acceptance was all that was desired

They all stood quiet, their guns recently fired.
