Our Black Skin
My skin is like no other
There's several, many, thousands of different colors
Since I was yay high, I've been told to love my skin color
"My black is beautiful", constantly spat through my ears. I sit in tears wondering why the non-melaninated hold so much hate against my peers
We've been teased, never been pleased with our skin color, just because it was a couple shades darker
Nose "too wide", booty "too big", lips "too plump" skin "too dark", what more do you want?
Ahh I see, you want us to drown in your insaults, stay low because that's where we're supposed to go. Act like animals so you can "take care" of us
Well explain your ldefinition of take care because whips, chains, ropes, and all this pain is what's provided. That's like saying select your choice when the choice was already selected.
Hide and never seek for the person that was it
Follow the stars and moon above
Your ticket to freedom is at the end of the Underground Railroad, where I roll, she rolls, he rolls into the thoughts of being caught, into the thoughts of being dead covered in red
Beaten and broke down but we're still here trying to make the best of what we're left with
For 150 years, there was no say so from our black skin
But what do I know, I'm just a kid, plus that was 150 years ago. Let bygones be bygones. Crumble it up and throw it away
But away doesn't seem real.
See with this typa situation, it'll never be gone
See the prideful prejudice got ahold of a time machine. They came to intervene what we thought was peace.
Dozen of thousands of wars between two races we thought would be koo. Koo? After all those endless years of horror. Tuhhh, you uh damn foo
Like a solider I'll stand and strive for what is mine, my freedom. It'll be held high where the birds fly alongside the beautiful spirits of Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, Philando Castile, Stephon Clark, Alton Sterling, Terence Crutcher, Walter Scott, Eric Harris, Tony Robinson, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, and Eric Garner. I promise you there are more names to spread. We'll hold enough freedom and pride and where it on our black skin
Not once have we been crucified but we are God's children
Strong in many eras
Thank you for proving we're beautiful and have become your trend setters. No more teasing us because baby you want to be us. Our lips that was "to plump" became your injections, our nose that was "too wide" became your nose jobs, our butt that was "too butt" became your implants, our skin that was "too dark" became your tanning sessions.
You and I both know that my black is strong, my black is proud, my black is unquie, my black is intelligent, my black is resilient, my black loves, my black cares, my black is dope, my black is beautiful
