Our color is Beautiful
Our Color Is Beautiful
My color is soul
My color is strength
My color is fierce
Our color is beautiful
My skin tells a story
My past
My present
And my future
Our color is life
First we were slaves
Then we were set free
Free???
We were not set free
Law segregated us
People mistreated us
Used us
We were discriminated against
But African American hero’s
Harriet Tubman
Rosa Parks
And Dr. Martin Luther King
Legends
They fought for our freedom
Stood up for our rights
But it wasn’t enough
We were not considered equal
We were treated unfair
Because of our color
We couldn’t get a job
We couldn’t get into school
We struggled
Our voices were not heard
They tried to keep us silent
They muffled our words
And tried to seal our lips
But we couldn’t be brought down
We are still fighting for our rights
We came far since then
But we still have a long way to go
You may call us
Black
African American
Or colored
But we are
Soul
Strength
Fierce
Our color is beautiful
