Our Dad Roy

My dearest dad you were to us

the greatest man there ever was

our steady rock when things got rough

a helping hand when times got tough

Our leader,teacher all in one

our skills for life learned all with fun

You taught us all you had to give

and armed us for the lives we'd live

You watched us grow and leave the nest

A chance at last for you to rest

But did you take it no not you

you helped us feather our nests too

You showed us how to pitch a tent

and how hard work would pay the rent

from hanging paper on a wall

to fixing cars you knew it all

In time when parents we became

you taught our children just the same

When help was needed you'd call round

You never ever let them down

But now it's time to say good bye

sad tears well up in every eye

But we'll remember you with pride

our hero, Dad and life long guide
