Darkness
We are surrounded by the night
Fear
We cower all the while in fright

We come from humblest beginnings
Suppressed by pain and sorrow
We have barely lasted today
And we may not make tomorrow

'Tis our darkest hour
Maybe our very last
We have made it through the battle
But the war is still at hand

In these fading moments
As we try to mend our wounds
Fire rages on
As we carry dead men to their tombs

But from our tears and from our pain
Arises something new
Formed from the heat of the flames
'Tis our enemies doom

It is not something magical
But something so much more
From the might within our souls
Has this new power been forged

You can see it in our eyes
The change from within
There is no longer pity or sorrow
But a marked determination

We have risen from the darkness
Overcome our greatest fears
Our fallen brothers in arms
Have brought mighty tears

The general calls the order
"wait for my call"
We lie there in wait
Then he cried "Charge! Charge! Charge!"

We flew through the night
Our rifles at the ready
Gunshots caused bursts of light
As we held our bayonets steady

Yes this is our darkest hour
Perhaps our very last
But at least while we fight
We are free, free at last
