Our Final Goodbye

I can hear her voice drifting in the wind,

Feel her fingers running through my hair,

Feel her watching over me

As she guides her only heir.

She sings to me at night,

A lullaby so soothing,

Her voice that of a quartet

So beautiful in their harmony.

I can hear her calling me,

Asking me to join her

Out in the moonlight

Where her voice and the air stir.

She looks so beautiful

Standing beneath the moon.

She shines with the otherworldly light

Of a soul gone too soon.

She smiles at me

With tears in her eyes,

We both know this is

Where we say our final goodbyes.

She walks towards me,

And hugs her daughter

One last time before she

Is gone forever.

I can’t bring myself to return the embrace.

As she fades away,

I can only stand there crying

As everything turns to shades of gray.
