Our Generation
You told me you loved me
But you're not the relationship type
My world only evolved in your presence
The mere thought of you illuminated my life
But I didn't own you; you weren't mine
The thought of you making another feel the way I felt
Only deepened the need to fill this bottomless pit
I let you enter my soul
I gave you all I had, every last bit of me
Not knowing that your soul purpose in life
Was to tear me apart from the inside
Leaving me in a cold, desolate place
Where I could only hide behind the shame and the guilt
Both of which gnawed at the grain of confidence i owned
Without looking back; Within the blink of an eye
You moved on
Somehow you found a way to be the relationship type
As soon as I had gathered enough strength to pick myself up
The sight of your fingers so intertwined with hers
Shot me back down and again I'm wounded
She won't even give you half of what I gave you
How did she get the honor and I get the curse?
The dots fail to connect in my head
But I no longer let this delinquent steal from me
I only let the fire brewing inside carry me
Then comes along my Ice Prince
Extinguishing the fire as fast as it started
He shows me the things i felt before
Were only a figment of my imagination
He pushes me to do nothing but be extraordinary
He caresses my healing heart with no desire to caress my body
I was at the gates of Heaven
After clawing my way through Hell
But he was not a forgiving God
I was tainted; covered in Sin
He wanted nothing to do with me
His precious jar had been opened
I felt myself slipping back to that familiar, cold, desolate place
~This is the generation we live in, where you give your all then end up rejected and get rejected for giving your all.
