Our Hidden Truths

Alarm. Shower. Clothes and out the door.

A coat to cover our slumped shoulders,

Lipstick to cover our quivering lips,

Concealer to cover our streaked tears,

Sunglasses to hide the pain in our eyes.

To others, we're nothing but a typical being.

A doctor who's too judgementive,

A waiter with no patience,

A teenager who laughs a little too loud.

To ourselves, we see the truth.

A man who could never satisfy his parents,

A boy who needed a line just to start his day,

A girl who's afraid of being in the quiet all alone.

We judge one another on the appearances we see,

Unknowing of how someone really may be.

We put on a show everyday that seems to be of no use,

Trying as hard as we can to protect our hidden truths.
