Our Last Sun

We appreciate the dead

But what about the living?

Where was the adoration

While you were still breathing?

And where were the smiles

That wiped away your sorrow

Or the comforting embraces

That made you want tomorrow

I see you for who you are

And I see you right now

I want to love you while you’re here

I know exactly how

I’ll paint a picture for you

Bake for you

Do what I know I can

Send you letters in mail

Grab a hold of your hand

Sing you lullabies

Hear your cries

Stay by you all these years

Even in that wrenching moment

When you shed your final tear

We tend to live each day

Like we’ll see another sun

But there will come a day

When we see our last one

I write in my free time whenever I feel strongly about a topic or need to get something off of my chest. Poetry has been a very therapeutic outlet for me through the years. I enjoy sharing my poems in hopes that they connect with someone, and I enjoy reading poems by other poets, too!
