Our Love

Some love is glass
beautiful to see
smooth to the touch
but dropped once
shatters completely
some love is metal
hard to break
but becomes so bent it is useless

some love is rope
fraying from the start
until the pieces snap apart
and fall limp

our love is rock
ordinary, rough in spots
quite plain

stronger than any beautiful glass
steadier than any malleable metal
thicker than any fraying rope
we are not glass fit together
nor metal burned as one
nor rope entertwined

we were forged a rock
made inseparable
by water to wash away tears
fire to burn doubts away
wind to brush fears away
and earth to keep us grounded

made timeless by time itself
and forever people will pass
and wonder where our rock came from
it came from love
