Our Quiet Place
Beyond the bustling bay
lies the place where we used to play.
Grass as tall and green as rainforest trees
gives way under the summer breeze.
Up ahead on the hill is a tree that we know
whose highest branch is the first place I'd go.
But you prefered to stay behind
to hunt for all the bugs and flowers and rocks you could find.
The smell of honeysuckle and wild berries
bees flying around like fairies
the clouds creating pictures in the sky
and birds drifting lazily up high.
I looked out across my kingdom one day
and my eyes settled onto the bustling bay
with its busy people moving to and fro
always with a place to go.
As the sun set, I climbed down with it
and I beckoned to you to come and sit
and I just wanted to stay there all night
chasing lightning bugs by the moon's white light.
