our timeless tradition

dear anna,

3,833 miles and

an expansive ocean

separate

you from me.

our timeless tradition

of fridays walks

have diminished

with distance.

3,833 miles of

heartbreak and regret.

my best friend,

my sister,

you gave me strength and

Temporary bliss.

our timeless tradition,

despite my constant

craving for coffee,

was solely motivated

by our time spent

together.

the journey we

endured,

we endured

as a unified front

in a world forever

changing.

our timeless tradition

provided constant

security

and liberation from

palpable despair.

with you,

my place was found.

now, I face

detachment and darkness.

our timeless tradition

has surrendered

to time

and facilitated the destruction of

friendship.

you promised

continuity;

you claimed

forever

yet, your words

prevailed empty and

meaningless.

our timeless tradition

has extinguished

and transformed into

nothing more

than a memory...

of the past.

a stranger

an imposter

of who you once were,

haunts me.

But, I have grown

tired

of waiting

for what will cease to be.

our timeless tradition is

no longer

ours

as change

fragments

the institution of

friendship.

so I prevail,

a single light in the

darkness,

now a bird

who has found

the will to fly

and learned to sing

independently

of the burden

cast by

distance.

With love,

alena
