Our Times
Makiah Watts
Parents. Our parents claim that they have "been through what we've been through" In a sense that's true. They have been through some of the things we have, but not exactly the way we have been through it, nor the time or date we have been through theese things.
They think that we can just go to them with our problems but, when we do they have a problem. They think were dramatic, or they compare our problems to other people problems, or even their past problems. I understand their problems are big but, we just need someone to listen and guide us.
So when we come to you with our problems, think about the society we live in, and for females look at how high the bar is set.
We've heard other women say "Who cares about what other people think", but when we look at these other models we begin to shrink. Its easier said than done. What we need is encouragement and confidence.
When we ask to go somwhere and you try to "protect" us you're really creating a way for satan to use that against us. You might ask "How?". He uses you not trusting us as a drive to make us want to do those things. It makes us want to "go where we want to go" and "do what we want to do". Im not a parenting expert but remember, this is a childs point of view.
During this time a lot of kids struggle with depression. So love becomes an obssesion. We want a distraction so we use our phones, because when we're alone thoughts seem to flow. Thoughts of just ending it all, or turning our mental pain into physical pain. Sometimes being in our rooms just us and the silence is what kills us. Parents call us "Anti-social" or "Lazy", but we're scared to come out because if we talk to you we're being rude or,we have an attitude.
This is just my point of view, its many others point of view too.
