Our Town
Let me take you down
To the town
Where I live;
Every day on the news,
I watch families cry,
Innocents die,
And here, sit I
Eating chocolate cheerios.
And here in my town,
We sit around
Filing our nails
And complaining:
"Dammit, it's raining,
I just did my hair!
What will I wear to prom?
Did you hear that Sarah and Zack broke up?
And Linds got together with Tom."
And of the mothers
Work out in a nice gym,
All friends with each other,
Because they all go to the same spa.
And our dads sit around,
Discussing our town
As they play golf in khakis;
And I just think it's so goddamn tacky
That one world could flourish
As another decays,
People are dying
As I go about my day
And if I had a penny
For every time I sighed,
My wealth would never amount
To those living on the front lines.
