Is This Our World?

Succeeding, depleting, ravaging.

The world is at an end.

People walk, talk, sing.

They do not seem to notice,

Just how much our world has changed.

In a year, ten, a century.

It used to never be

But evolution happened,

And our planet came to be.

And evolution happened,

And we became reality.

And evolution happened,

So here we stand today.

Succeeding in our society.

Depleting ozone, oxygen, clean water.

Ravaging our own planet,

Our world, our home, our own lives.

Destroying our possible future!

Can we slow it? Could we stop it?

Could most of us choose our planets health over comfort, class, and having luxury?

Of life at its best? Which is also the worst?

Filling the naturally star-lit sky, with haze and unnatural light.

Our beautiful and serene mountains, which once stood so very clear.

Now they have, at best, twenty miles that you can see.

Polluting the very rivers and creeks,

And overhunting the very animals,

On which our ancestors once survived.

Will there ever be an end.

To this despicable, ugly time?

Cities, highways, cars…

Will people ever go back to riding bikes, and walking everywhere?

Is that even possible, in the world in which we now live?

Death, defiance, dread…

Is that the path which we now walk?

Are our sins to far over the edge?

Can we stop ourselves from going over that final ledge?

Or are we forever doomed,

To merely fall, and fall…

And fall?

Until at last we land,

At the end of it all…?
