Out On The Plains......
Out On The Plains......
Out on the plains;
Shimmering,
Swirling,
Mirage on the horizon,
Is it an illusion?
Of what may come tonight,
Another day,
Another hope,
For won’t of a better word.
Out on the plains;
No shadows cast,
Only a dusty squall,
Passing,
Passing,
A blight of misery
Out on the plains;
Storms of a different kind,
Praying,
Saying.
Out on the plains;
But thank heavens
For the long paddock,
So far, far away
Our dad has gone a mustering,
Our mother left to cope,
Old Joker lies,
neath empty water trough.
And the bank man
Is hovering like,
a one legged vulture,
With plans to liquidate.
Out on the plains;
Paddocks bare,
Crops no longer sown,
Grass an imagination of sorts,
No water in the creek,
Billabong, home no longer
to cormorant,
Or pelicans on the drift,
Windmill gone all limp,
But where?
Out there on the plains.....
