Out of sight, Out of mind.
Sitting in the living room, looking into the kitchen
You didn’t want it until you saw
Your sister open the chip bag,
Eat an apple. You were fine.
Because
Out of sight
Out of mind.
But you’re now “hungry”, so you get up
You walk
To the kitchen, open a cabinet door; reach for some kind of junk
You & I,
We can do that, we’re capable.
It’s not like that in other places.
It’s not like that everywhere.
Some people have to fight, kill to survive.
World hunger isn’t a joke; it’s not just a nightmare
It’s real, it exists in places
You wouldn’t dream of.
It’s not in our sight
So it’s out of our mind.
It’s not easy
Changing something that spreads like wildfire
Throughout, even our own country.
Out of sight
Out of mind
They say.
But, who is they?
It’s not in my sight, but it’s in my mind.
Could I imagine my little brothers starving?
Could I imagine my illness becoming progressively worse,
Only because I couldn’t get the nutrients I needed?
No.
We need to put a stop to it.
It’s not an easy fix, but it’s not impossible.
We can resolve this issue.
What if that child who starved to death,
Could have cured cancer?
So many possibilities,
That just can’t be seen, or heard.
Because,
Out of sight
Out of mind.
