Out of Training Wheels

I saw a little girl
On a bike
Riding with her braids fanning behind her in the wind
She rode with a steady confidence
A sort of innocence
Looking ahead of her
Sometimes swerving
Regaining balance
And riding forward
Her shadow followed beside her
Mirroring her upheld head
Hands stretched out onto her handle bars
Riding, riding forward
Steady
I rode behind her
My shadow followed hers
Steady
Unswerving
Feet following her rhythm
Geers turning
Sounds intertwining together
Until my shadow passed hers
Her gears silent
Her shadow fading
Into an older girl
Riding fast into the wind
As if time lapsed
Ten years
head forward
Unswerving
Heading into the wind
Into the unknown
