Outside and Away

When I was a young man

I looked up at the sky

and saw a plane

going away

When I was a young man

I looked outside the classroom window

and saw a train

going away

When I was a young man

I looked down at the highway

wondering where it ended

far, far away

When, for just a little moment

I saw my family, my church

And wondered to myself:

Why should I be

going away?
