Outside, on the Grass, Below the Sky

Outside, on the grass, below the sky In awe of the surroundings Looking up through the darkness Up, Up, Up Mistaking stars for fireflies Insects chirping, birds twittering Laughter in the distance Melody From the whistling wind Harmony From the rustling trees Into a perfect song Taking in the scent of grass Sweet, like pie Crisp, like ice The breeze Distributing the scent of flowers The moon, the king of the night So bright, so full So clear A mirror I can see my reflection in Midnight clouds approach Competing with the moon For reign of the overhead skies Majestic and powerful Feeling the hard earth Our mother, our home The ground We depend on its stability Running my hand across the dirt Soft, smooth, cool The perfect mattress I share my bed with the insects and grass Inhaling the cold air Lying down Trusting my body to the earth and sky Tasting the fresh air As I doze off Peaceful, quiet and light Outside, on the grass, below the stars
