Outside My Building
In my dreams I see
Smooth short tranquilized green
Grass outside my building.
As the cars on the street
roll by faster than the breeze
And out fly the wasps bees
Outside my building.
I see ladies walking down the side walk
Fellas parking all down my drive port
Cars lined out near the front door
Of my building.
Women picking at their afros
Chewing gum and smackin' it too
Men with gold teeth and tooth picks
Hollering at them "Hey Juicy Fruit"
Making conversation about temptation
Heading right to the same spot
I stand behind the tinted reflection window
At the action in the parking lot
He held the door for her so she could walk in first
And he stared apon her hips and waist
And butt sit up in her skirt
But that was good because that meant
She'd be first to sit down in my chair
When she did I put a cape around her neck
And began parting her hair.
With him I'd only have to trim around his hairline and trim some of the back
With her I have to apply conditioner to loosen up her tracks
Then I'll slowly pull them out
Shampoo her without a doubt
And then condition it, rinse that out
Then put some oil all over her scalp.
Now another man walks in
holding his daughter as she wiggles and worms
She looks nervous cause he thinks its time
For the little girl's first perm
She's been natural for five years
And she's a tender-head little pearl
But we'll definately change the texture
When I apply this hair crack to her world
"I can hot comb, I can flat iron, I can blow dry out her hair
But if I put this hair crack in there they'll be split-ins everywhere"
"No ma'am I want it permed we can't do nothing with these naps
This girl got curly tangly course hair hanging too far down her back"
Although this residence it my facility and I own this whole place
My customers are always right
So I usually try to go along with what they say
I parted the baby's hair four ways
Applied the hair crack every way
Gave the chemical 20 minutes to work it's wonders and it's faith
"Hallelujuah! Hallelujuah!" I can finally see her scalp!
See! I'm a man. Daddy knew what he was talking about.
It'll be how much?"
"Fifty dollars"
"Here you go and I like your shop
Your unique personal advertisment is really
What drove me to your beauty shop"
"Thank you, I hope to see you and your princess back again
And dont put too much heat on her head
Tell your wife to tie a scarf on it before she goes to bed"
"We'll be back in two weeks schedule us down in your book
I can tell you have the strength ambition and patience it took
to make it to the top."
