Overcome

Sweaty palms,

A turned ignition,

Overactive intuition,

Seems to say,

"You shouldn't try"

And then I start to wonder why:

They call it freedom,

But at what cost?

The risk of such a tragic loss,

And on my shoulders there seems to rest

A burden causing too much stress.

Can I overcome?

On the road,

Accelerating

Am I overcomplicating

every single move I make?

If I can do this what will it take?

But I will overcome.

Since I must,

I won't obey

The voices that still seem to say,

"You can't, you won't, you'll surely fail"

Because I'll be the one to tell this tale.

A firmer grip as

my fears expire.

I feel the road

Beaneath my tires.

And at the end as I shut the door,

I'm not a child anymore.

I have overcome.
