Overcoming
What is discrimination
Someone from a different nation
Or a different station
Or a different relation
Who instead of celebrating for how they are diverse
We raise up a barrier of differences to rehearse
Why not instead
Of getting mad and red
Celebrate how they shore up our lack
And do many things with great knack
For we all need each other
Working together as sister and brother
To overcome obstacles in front of us
And build trust
So next time someone gives you the cold shoulder
Don't go hide behind the nearest boulder
Or say something you will regret when you are older
Storing up all the hurt in a mental folder
Choose to be like so many great women and men
Who refused to be discouraged and tried again
Because there will always be those
From whom unkindness flows
But it is your choice to accept all that noise
Or to choose to listen to a different voice
The voice that is true
Speaking identity to you
That no matter what they say or do
There is someone out there that’s special and that’s you
