Overcoming Adversity

I come to the same house everyday and act like a different person

And yes I said house

Because a home is where love and dreams prosper and a house is made of brick, wood and dust

I come to the thanksgiving table greeted by all my relatives saying: “you got a girlfriend yet”

Little do they know thats not gonna happen

I would tell them

But it’s hard to explain love, when you’re not allowed to explain it

You ask me why I cry

Well you’re the reason why

I cannot speak of it

Cause it is prohibited

Now I know I might sound mean and mad

No it is not a choice nor a fad

I experience discrimination everyday

To say that something is bad is to say that it is gay

So I’m waiting for a ride to school

When across the street this guy yelling like a fool

Telling me that I am a bad person

I wish to be happy but the feeling can only worsen

I wanted to hold this guys hand

But I was too terrified

Would someone say something

I tried not to hide my pride

Even though I felt tired

I was moved and inspired

With my valor and might

To stand up and do what was right
