OVERCOMING THE REALITY OF DEATH

OVERCOMING THE REALITY OF DEATH

Growing up my greatest fear was of death and dying
It meant people around me were mourning and crying.

I could never understand why those we loved had to leave
And those who were left behind were left to grieve.

I would worry and worry about those who were close to me
And wondered and wondered just why death had to be.

For so many years my family and friends were happy and well.
And suddenly we suffered a loss and my heart just fell.

My grandfather took ill, suffered for a while, then left his family behind.
It was devastating to lose someone you love who was so very kind.

But I soon learned that as he reached the end of his life.
He was tired and ready to make the ultimate sacrifice.

It was at that point that I accepted he had to leave
And I would become one of those left to grieve.

It is through this experience that I have learned and have grown
I have learned although we miss our loved ones, life does go on.

Death is the culmination of all that we have done, both good and bad, since our birth.
We hope that our lives brought happiness to our family who remain on this earth.
