Overcoming something

From under

the filmy night,

we step onto the cool

pavement with our bare

feet, and break into a run.

From under

these covers, we hid from the

lightning and thunder, and we grew

tall and ready so that our

toes could reach

beyond them.

Hide in the bushes

with me now, because

I can see my father’s flashlight,

poking through the night, and I would like

our escape to last.
