own.
a whisper of stubble brushing against my cheek,
whisper of assault, gun fire,
yet gentle hands find my own.
surgery after surgery after
telling others to mind their own
telling others to mind their own.
brother perpetually in hospital
in route to loaning herself out
she stands tall, holds her own.
i stare deeply into those i surround.
