p & p

he first said she did not deserve his love

but was compelled to her to give his heart;

she turned him down for insults that he gave;

asunder, neither took blame for their part.

when he realized the words he'd used, and she

the real heart saw of him whom she had spurned,

he tried to show her all civility,

and she that to him now her heart had turned.

  the moral that I take from them is this:

  if there's a man whose heart is for me still,

  I won't deserve him or the love that's his;

  and who says he deserves me not, he will.
