Packet of Sunshine

Every time I see you

my smile shines brighter

The gleam in my eyes

grows ever so slightly

I open the packet, treating

It as delicate as a piece of China,

As I slowly pull out the 100 gram block of delight,

my mouth ever so salivates,

my stomach grumbles as

ghrelin, the hunger hormone, rushes through my body

You are a present of joy

a bundle of happiness

a packet of sunshine

And I'm sorry.

I hear the cries of pain

As I drop you in the water, but I tell you

Baby hush. It'll all be worth it

The tears slowly emerge as the pot heats and

turns into a frenzied roar of screens

I must stir you, break the fight up

One last part left,

One last ingredient

I break open the packet,

I marvel at my creation, for

I am the modern Victor Frankenstein,

Bringing life to the dried and shelved

As I poor the pot of goodness into the bowl,

My senses are overwhelmed

The sound of it being poorer is like Beethoven to my ears

The aroma released into the air is bolder than the strongest perfumes

My eyes are in wonder, for you are my new princess and I'm your knight in shining armor

As tempted as I am to reach over to touch and soothe you, I stop, for I know those who ignore the rules of time are greeted by your fiery grasp

The only thing left to do now

Is to simply take a bite.
