The Pain That Never Fades Away

I stare across the horizon at the branches falling from the stripped trees,

its nakedness and flaws visible to the world,

its mirroring depiction cast upon my existence.

There’s a silence in the air that surrounds my soul and these winter trees,

while the cool breeze grows cooler and the beating rain begins to fall in our sight.

The sky is grey and sinking and the landscape is chilly and shifting.

All the words between me and the barren trees have vanished,

drifting away to an undeserted place slammed shut.

I inhale the icy winds whipping through my sunken face,

letting it sift in deep into my drowned heart,

until I can understand the pain that never fades away.

My name is Travis Green and I was born and raised in Middlesex, North Carolina. I grew up with my mom, Sandra Mitchener, and raised as a single child. My dad, Robert Lee Green, died in a car wreck when I was a baby. I graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree in English in 2012. I'm also a visual artist who loves to draw pretty much anything in the world. I've been drawing for nearly 14 years. I recently published my poetry book, Life and Dreams in Poetic Words, and my autobiography, The Makings of Life and Dreams. My focus is to keep moving forward and chase after my dreams.
