The pain of some

Laying on the ground

Dazed and confused

Not sure where you are at

Not sure what to expect

What comes next

Is a sound

That will be impossible to forget

The crashing thunder

The sound so loud

Not expecting to hear

The sound after

That loud bang

It keeps coming

Not stopping

Sounding like a war zone

A sharp pain finally coursing

Through my body

Feeling a bloody

Ground underneath the palm

Of the hand lazing on the ground

No ability to move it

Just lying there only feeling

The sharp pulsing pain

Coursing through me

Wincing at each pulse

Finally coming to

Hearing everything

Remembering everything

The place I am currently laying

The sound echoing in my head

With the constant banging

That sounds like a war zone

Is just that a war zone

That is where I am at

The ground I am lying on

That is soaked with blood

Is a field filled with the dead

Soldiers that will never go home

And me I am slowly dying

In this field of death

The pulsing from my leg

Is coming from a limb

That is no longer there

The palm feeling the blood soaked ground

Is in the same place as the leg that is no longer there

Both blown clean off from the land mine

That surprised the group

With the opposing soldiers

Jumping out from there hiding places

Shouting and shooting off their guns

There were only a few that were able to fight

Against our enemy

As I laid here bleeding out

Knowing I will die soon

As everyone else in my group has already died

I can feel myself slowly slip into the blood soaked land

Slowly joining them

In the land of the dead

A sudden rumble

Shaking ground

All coming from the left

Slowly turn

Struggling to move

The 10 pound head on a limp neck

Moving, inching as much as possible

To only see a bright light

Then darkness

Jumping up in bed dripping in sweat

Surrounded by the darkened room

The artificial leg shifting to the sudden movement

Threatening to fall out of reach but not doing so

Thinking of the dream

Correction what was wished to only be a dream

But was not

It was the reality

Of the price that was paid

For to keep this so called freedom

Yet trapped in this dying world
