The pain that was

There was once this void in my heart, sort of like a fart that wouldn't come out. Stuck.

And excuse the analogy, I just want you to see the bigger picture. Because I didn't.

I was so trapped inside my world of pain convinced I was going insane. So I went numb.

Like a vampire, I turned off my emotions and felt none. Which was good for a while.

No hurt, no heartake, but most of all no pain.

I trapped my emotions inside this box wrapped with spikes and thorns.

Sort of like a prideful woman I was scorned.

Convinced another had the key but I later found out it was up to me.

I was weak back then.

Letting a man define me rather than seeking deep within myself. And finding beauty.

My soul is nothing to be played with and I'll be damned if I make it a slave.

Prone to heartbreaks how the oppressed is prone to the oppressor.

But that is a poem for another day.
