Painful Visions

I close my eyes

And see walls painted in blood

My mother cries

And her tears resemble

The color of pain

I close my eyes

And picture a teenager`s innocence

Stolen by priest

Preaching the Lord`s gospel

While his actions are

The praises of the devil

I close my eyes and wonder

What would I do if it

Were to happen to my mother`s own

Flesh and blood

I open my eyes

But still these visions of pain

Torment me from sunrise till sunset,

I stand still In front of a mirror

And see reflections of pain

Reflect of me wounded and bloody

Next to my reflection

I see a woman crying

Over the grave of her first-born child

And at times

I picture a nail penetrating these hands

And wonder how the messiah felt

I close my eyes

And see walls painted in blood

My mother cries

And her tears resemble

The color of pain

Knowledge and wisdom

Replaced with a rifle against my forehead

Love and happiness with an assegai

Against my heart beat

I picture fathers using babies

To calm an erection

Teachers using education

For sexual satisfaction

An African woman losing her virginity

To a rapist

And young boys sexually attracted

To their grandmothers

Grown up men molesting their own daughters

Just imagine a boy

Raping his own mother

A priest becoming a rapist

I should say no more

Except that,

I close my eyes

And see walls painted in blood

My mother cries

And her tears resemble

The color of pain
