Palm Sunday Prayer

For Palm Sunday

I that to clothe the naked,

and minister to those

who are homeless.

I serve the oppressed,

Not caring the color of their skin,

or what religion they practice.

I need only the grace of God

and have my heart and soul filled  . . .

with love.

God invites me to this.

The invitation is for each person to share,

the community,

and yes,

even the government.

Individually we, the children of God,

do fairly well,

and many of our communities

help those in need.

I pray for big businesses,

impersonal governments

to open the coffers of wealth,

lift the poor and weak from their forgottenness.

I pray that we in the United States,

priding ourselves on being a Christian nation,

will live up to this promise of God’s love.

I pray that corporations and governments,

remember that Jesus . . .

served not the rich,

those who hoard wealth,

the top one percent.

I pray that we will truly act . . .

as a nation of Christ.

My dream . . .

the war on the poor,

the people of color,

and those who attend -

temples or synagogues

will be declared over.

Victory comes . . .

only when all God’s children

are lifted in praise.

I am a retired high school and college professor. The last 10 years of my teaching was as a college professor of literature and writing. I have self-published one book of prayers and meditations and am preparing another book of poetic odes to faith and love. I am truly honored to be welcomed into this group.
