Panama

On bright summer days, I close my eyes and picture myself engulfed in your sweet air.

The aroma of Sancocho, empandas, and cocades sends my mouth watering.

Memories of walking down Via Espana street flood into my brain causing tears in my eyes.

Oh my homeland, my heritage, my culture.

It has been too long since we last met.

Fourteen long years in a strange land.

Fourteen long years speaking a strange language.

Fourteen long years of separation and yet I have not forgotten you.

I will never forget you.

For one day we will meet again,

and when that day comes I will dance in your streets.

I will scream out the words of our Himno Istmeño.

Because you and I are one, connected eternally.

Panama and I.
