Pandora's Box
I opened Pandora’s box, expecting to be flooded with bad, life ruining things.
Instead I discovered you.
You were beautiful beyond my own comprehension.
Your skin shined in the heated light of day.
Your hair glistened like a million diamonds in the bitter sun.
I begged to know you.
I begged to feel you in every way.
I pleaded with the Gods to let me keep you,
And my wishes were granted.
For you were all of the good things in life.
The laughter of a child.
A warm cup of tea.
A chilled night after a sweltering day.
I found myself engulfed in you.
I found my mind wrapped around your hands.
I let you bend me to your will.
But alas, Pandora’s box was full of evil,
And as time passed by me, I began to see it in you.
You made me sick with despair.
I longed for the love you refused me.
My heart was full of misery,
And I began to feel myself die.
I became a shadow,
hanging from you in the lowlights of the afternoon.
The sadness you forced on me buzzed like moths in my ear.
I tried to slam the box shut.
I prayed so desperately for Hope to emerge from it.
My pleads were left unanswered.
I opened Pandora’s box, expecting to be flooded with bad, life ruining things.
Instead, I discovered you.
