Pandora’s “Box”

Pandora’s upbringing shaped her but she lacked self-awareness

Eager to please, she had poise but was careless 

Combine over-involvement with an absent moral-code

And the venom of gossip is easy to upload

A box of hate without consequences

Her comments online were her line of defenses

She hid her own loathing behind a glass screen

But power of opinion gave her a guillotine 

Misinformed of the news and ignorant of struggle 

She was always preparing for a daily rebuttal

And while the internet brought a hoard of cruelty and spite 

There are some things online that are especially bright

The connection to friends who moved far away

A video that made you laugh when you had a bad day

Communities reaching out to help others in distress

Digital aid for those who have less

So while Pandora’s box gave way to senseless hate

It also gave way to something immeasurably great

A hope that can be passed through every glass screen

That is enough to shatter hate’s guillotine
