Paper Airplanes

I shouldn’t be sitting here

Thinking of all the things that could’ve

Gone in a different direction

I would rather be pulled through life side ways

Hot dog style

Like the way I used to fold my paper airplanes

In elementary school

Whipped through the air with no direction

Or path

Care free

Like I was

No reason to wonder how

I even got here

Here

Right now

I feel less like a paper air plane

And more like a subway ticket

Being pushed and pulled though different slots

Fast paced and rushed

Just to get to my next destination

Maybe I feel recycled

Like all paper is these days

I feel nostalgic of the time

I felt colorful

Like construction paper

Colored on by a toddler

Free and full of passion

But sometimes I feel like printer paper

Sometimes printed in black and white

Or in color, for some college kid’s

Paper on the analytical view of the stock market

And color coded graphs were a required

Part of the assignment

But

With all paper

I must remember I was a tree once

Standing tall and proud

Letting the wind ruffle my leaves

Mighty tree

With no clue

That one day I would be torn down

To be come

A paper air plane
