A Paper Put to Pen
Why does a heart flutter when a young girl puts paper to a pen?
A young lady simply waiting for her life to begin.
A teacher saying “Girls, this is a way for your heart to express!”
However, my eighth grade self had feelings in excess.
A poem about death, a poem about love,
Poems about true friendship and about when push comes to shove.
Reading of Maya Angelou and writers of that sort,
This became a challenge of words, some kind of sport.
Alas, here I am, a young lady in this place.
Finally wearing a satisfaction upon my face,
I know a bright world is ready to appear.
When it does, I’ll know my values are written here.
In eighth grade, a paper found a pen.
I had no clue what would have happened then.
Alas! Expression! A way to understand.
The thoughts in my head transferred to my hand,
I’d write down my heartbreak and things that brought me down.
However, I’d also write about the times it was impossible to frown.
I plan to change the world with more than just my pen.
How I will, who knows? I’ll tell you what happens then.
