The door opens and he walks out

Leaving me alone in the

Empty house

Empty room

Empty doorway

With an

Empty smile

Empty thought

Empty heart

The taillights turn on and his truck backs out

Disappearing in the

Dark night

Dark road

Dark city

From a

Dark porch

Dark hug

Dark memory

The door closes and I lock myself in

Feeling the

Cold air

Cold light

Cold doorknob

Alone with

Cold pizza

Cold tears

Cold remembrance

All I can do is wait

For my mother

For my sister

To come home

Home

In which my father left
