parade, rest

i am standing on the sidelines

balloon in hand

notepad in the other

watching

giving the occasional cheer

life's parade marches by

"so spectacular" i sigh to myself

each parade member has that look

that certainty of where they are heading

who they follow

what the purpose of it all is

scribble in the pad

take a bite of my corndog

i admire the procession

they dress just right

check their watches, making sure

the pace is set just right

the peace

the acceptance

of just knowing where you are headed

why you are going there

the point of it

i envy that....

one more bite of my corn dog

i release my balloon into the air

and join the parade

doing pretty well at keeping pace

but still not quite so sure about

where it is that I am going

Poetry is an outlet for me, but also a way to try and understand others. Music is poetry accompanied by beautiful sounds.. I have just turned 60 but have been writing poetry for about 20 years as a way of understanding 'stuff' (stuff=feelings, reactions, sorrow, etc). Reading others' words and writing my own brings me joy (insert various reactions here depending on the writing and/or my state of mind :) )
