PARENT’S DAY

I cannot imagine a life without you my mommy,

My mother is my foundation

With her in my life, I cannot ask for anything else

For her caring and loving nature comforts me

Remember: our mothers are the real heroines of today

She switches from being a man in protecting her children,

To being a woman whom resonates a caring and loving soul

Oh! she knows how to fight dirty when it comes to withstanding pain,

She knows the suffering of bearing a child

Always naturally hardworking and very determined,

She works until the skin of her hands comes off

Not to mention the trials and tribulations she goes through at work

Employers and employees treating her unfairly

Changing our solid mothers into a washed up old rag

Battered and bruised by the world

But still manages to come home with a smile on her face,

All for a minimum wage, Just to support you and I

That lovely cakes and tarts she makes for our birthdays makes us feel like there are no troubles in the world,

She puts food on the table with ease after a mountain hill of a day

And still cleans the dishes and washes the laundry

Even if her legs are wobbly and all she wants to do is sleep

She managed to do so much in such little time

That is how we saw our mothers

is it not?

But as we got older

We became less dependent on her caring prowess

We became independent- and all the sacrifices that she made started to amount to nothing

As we tend to throw it back in their faces

Thinking we can stand alone in this world with our legs planted firmly on the ground

Our parents are involved in our lives daily, guiding us throughout adulthood

But what do we do?

We take it all for granted- Do you know how?

We use drugs, we drink alcohol, we party like there is no tomorrow.

It’s despicable that we tend to forget where we came from

We, the youth have become reckless

Does any of those things amount to anything in this world?

It just leads to total and utter nothingness

Maybe we ought to praise our parents more

Yeah, sure they made mistakes in their lives

And yes they have become wiser from it

But we do not need to follow the same paths as they did

Let us not be limited to a specific day to honor and spoil our parents on Mother’s day and Father’s day

No, let us adore our parents’ everyday for the rest of our lives

Throw away the Mother and Father’s day

Let’s make everyday a Parent’s day

We must change our attitudes towards our parents

Let us not see the negatives only,

But let us see the positives and build on that!

And always listen to what we have been told,

That is how we all will be able to…

                                                          LIVE WELL AND DIE OLD
