A Part of Me

Brown skin, dark curls Is it black? The sun shines brown Sweet smile, sweet daydreams Curls woven like a crown A part of me, she's like a rose Beautiful are her thorns From every trial, every weep From the born Yet, there are those who miss her. The tulips watch with pride Peonies slow their stride Daisies blooming wide Lilacs guiding like a sister. A part of me walks On a different path than I Independent, ever growing A truth I can't deny Where is my time? I want it back It wasn't yours to take Those dark curls, that sweet smile Are the cause for my heart break Though with a patient look I see her petals open I felt such sorrowing her absence But her growth I have found hope in Look at how she blossoms Where is the doubt in this? It's I who's thought about myself Am I narcissist? A part of me has gone and flourished Lovely is this journey From womb to now I've seen a leader This praise was never for me Rai will fall and storms will come These tears are only happiness A pat of me, no longer a part I've learned to love this process
