Parting Soul

A music box left ajar. The ballerina leisurely rotating in sync with the melodramatic music. The seamless monotone tune beams off the white walls that blush in embarrassment, settling into a salmon pink. Standing among the tea cups and button eyed dolls towers an adolescent girl. A trembling extended hand glides across the lacquer coated surface. Grasping hold of her camouflage, bristly fingertips smear war paint over pimples and tears. Her life, one precocious safety drill. Her bedroom door, one immense curtain. Her home, one extensive stage. Preparing all of her costumes for many many roles. Preparing countless lines for her now parting soul.
