The Parts of Me
With the entire world around me, it’s hard to find myself.
Like searching for the diamond in the rough, never to be found.
With all the odds against me, still I keep on searching,
Hoping one day my one true identity will resound.
I sit in my room alone, staring at the wall
Thinking of the one thing that could define me.
I write down several descriptive words
Then stare at my list, wondering who I could be.
Why is this so hard for me?
Everyone else knows her place.
I feel like such an outcast,
Will I ever clearly see my face?
Suddenly I realize in a moment of truth,
The identity of me is not so easily described.
I cannot be pinpointed down to only one word.
I am many different things, impossible to be transcribed.
I am a daughter, a sister, a niece and cousin.
I am a lover, a fighter, a hugger and a friend.
I am independent yet dependent, strong and weak.
I am an athlete, a Christian, a beginning and an end.
I am a complicated figure, made of many parts.
With this realization I can clearly see,
I am not just one thing, just one word.
I am a special human being, and I am me.
